Located on the west shore of the island of Vis, and at the foot of Mount Hum, with almost 600 meters of height, is Komiza.Un typically Mediterranean place, with narrow streets and houses near the port. It attracts tourists for its beautiful beaches of pebbles and a mild Mediterranean climate, pleasant even during the winter months. Be aware of Komiza since the second half of the 12th century.Fishing developed from Komiza toward the eastern coast of the Adriatic. Fishermen from Komiza dominated trade in the Adriatic fish and even came to trade with the coast of the Pacific of both Americas. Komiza has always been proud of its past as a fishing village and proof of this is found in the fisheries Museum, unique in this class that exists in Croatia, located in the old Venetian tower, where all the arts and traditional fishing gear are exposed.A replica of a falkusa Gaeta (a kind of boat), is also considered maritime heritage of Croatia and that showed in the Expo 1998 in Lisbon. Each year, on 6 December, the patron saint of travelers, is celebrated in Komiza, in accordance with its tradition and custom, the feast of Saint Nikola, sailors and and fishermen.

It is the day of the city of Komiza and opposite the parish church of Saint Nikola takes place the burning of a boat offered in sacrifice. The history of the island of Vis is connected politically and economically with the fishing but also with the production of wine, which still today is the basis of the present and a vision for the future. There are very few people who have not heard about, or who have not tasted, a wine Vugava or a Plavac Mali. In recent years, the agro-tourism has also developed. The cottages have multiplied in Vis and Bi evo and offer, in addition to the House wines, specialities of the local cuisine as the bread of Komi to dishes under Pekah, grilled sardines, beans or pasta soup.
